1. Size of Advert All our standard ads are 81mm wide, with the exception of Map Ads, Half and Full Page ads. Sizes are as follows (mm wide x mm tall):
Please contact Your Local Representative for Pricing and Publication Schedules. You get a free line listing in bold when you advertise in each category. IMPORTANT: DO NOT TRY TO INCLUDE TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON A SMALL ADVERT! Small print will not reproduce clearly. Your ad will look messy, it will be unreadable, and your competition may gain an edge over you due to being neater and more professional looking. If you are in doubt then increase the size of your ad. ^^ top of page ^^
2. Choose an appropriate Category You may wish to place an advertisement in more than one category. You should consider where most of your business will be coming from and choose the correct sized ads based on this information. For example: you may wish to place a "Full Page" ad under your main category, a "Quarter Page" ad under your next most prominent category and another one or two "B" sized ads in less relevant categories. Your main ad will have most of your details and services and the other ads are supplementary with some category specific information and point to your main advert. Tip: Look for categories with no other ads and place an ad there, you will have the prime position and since our order is based on loyalty after size, any future competition will be placed below you in order (for the same size ad). Tip: In order to be placed closest to the front of any category, simply increase the size of your advert. Prominence is given to "Ad Size" then "Loyalty" NEW FLIPBOOKS: If advertising in one of our new flipbooks, remember to place an ad in each side of the book to increase your catchment area. A popular way to do this is by placing a large ad in one side of the book and a smaller ad on the other flip-side. Increase your readership.. Increase your Business.. and ultimately Increase your profits! ^^ top of page ^^
3. Artwork You can supply your own artwork or you can leave it up to our professional design team, as artwork is included in the cost of your ad.. If you supply your own artwork, please send it as a High Resolution PDF, An Adobe Illustrator File, A Corel Draw File or Photoshop file. If you send a Jpeg file, make sure it is at the correct size and proportion, and that it is at 300dpi and not overly compressed. DOWNLOAD OUR ARTWORK GUIDELINES (PDF) (opens in a new window) We do not accept publisher files, you can however copy and paste from publisher into word and send that if necessary. If you send your own artwork it is advisable to convert all text to "curves or outlines" to avoid font issues, it may look fine on your screen but if we don't have the font then it will not print correctly. Make sure you have proofed all your text before converting to outlines as the text becomes uneditable, save a copy of your original artwork with text intact in case you need to make changes or resupply. If you send your artwork as a "flattened" image file such as Jpeg, or Bitmap; then we will be unable to edit the text and will either have to recreate the artwork if changes are needed or print it as is. Remember to leave room for a map reference if you are designing your own artwork. Our designers are incredibly proficient and can do almost anything.. except make low quality artwork into high quality artwork. Quality in = Quality out.
So please send all files at high resolution of 300 DPI or greater. Please do not fax logos or photos as they become unusable.
If you scan anything, save it at a high resolution (300dpi+) and do not apply too much compression to the file. or it becomes pixelated and unusable. Submit images in RGB format as opposed to CMYK where possible, we will apply custom conversion settings where necessary. Camera Phone images are generally unsuitable unless the image will be printed at very small sizes. We receive a lot of basic artwork, sent to us as a guideline only and recreate it from there, so please notify us if your artwork is of "finished quality" or if the fonts you have chosen are exactly what you want to use. Generally we will recreate the ad to best effect unless otherwise told, or if the ad appears to be a final version. ^^ top of page ^^
5. Photos or logos supplied You can email us your photos or logos, or mail them and we will scan them (and return them if need be.) The quality is generally cleanest from a digital camera than from a scanned photo. We can crop images, remove backgrounds, add elements, change colours, tones, remove redeye, combine images and perform a wealth of magic tricks on photos to bring out their best. However, very little can be done about bad lighting or poor composition. And remember that it is your clients who will be looking at your ad not you! So a photo of your dog, your wife, your child or an old work ute may be sentimental to you, it may well look unprofessional to your potential future customers. Use appropriate imagery that is in context to your advert. Avoid generic clipart. If you send a business card or logo for scanning, make sure it's a clean copy, without writing, sticky tape or staples through it. Logos can be sent in many formats as we can open most files (except publisher). Remember to send high resolution artwork. Preferred formats, include: JPEG, TIFF, CDR, PSD, AI, PS, PDF. Make sure you remember to convert text on your logo or artwork to "curves or outlines" for accurate reproduction. ^^ top of page ^^
7. Printing Restrictions and Colour Variations We are unable to perfectly match Spot colours or PMS colours (as we print using a four colour process). Also colours such as gold, silver, burgundy and a few others just never seem to print consistently. This is because there is a large variation of the paper stock and printing process used between books. This is in order to keep your advertising costs down, while maintaining as high a printed quality as possible. We ask that you understand this issue and that colour variations are a natural part of the print process. Small text and small reverse block text (light text on dark background) will not print very well in some cases. If in doubt, keep your ad simple, don't over-cram information, stick to black or a shade of black (grey) for very small text. Avoid the use of narrow or thin text, scripts or fancy decorative fonts as they do not reproduce as well. ^^ top of page ^^ Our friendly staff are available to take any questions you may have on submitting your artwork, logos or photos.
